BANGALORE: The continued dry spell in several districts has adversely affected the kharif sowing, which was below normal (less than 20 per cent) of the total targeted area in the districts. Actual coverage of crops was negligible in Ramanagara (4 per cent), Kolar (9 per cent), Chickaballapur (17 per cent), Tumkur (12 per cent), Mandya (10 per cent), Bangalore Urban (1 per cent), and Bangalore Rural district (8 per cent). Conversely, despite heavy rain in Kodagu, the coverage of sowing was just 9 per cent of the targeted area in the district as on July 13, according to sources in the Agriculture Department. CoverageAn area of 41.01 lakh hectares (57 per cent) was sown as on July 13 as against the targeted area of 72 lakh hectares. The coverage recorded last year on the same date was 23.40 lakh hectares. Actual coverage in terms of percentage in different districts is: Shimoga – 51, Chitradurga – 44, Davangere – 69, Mysore – 54, Chamarajanagar – 48, Hassan – 43, Chikmagalur – 38, Dakshina Kannada – 53, Udupi – 66, Dharwad – 93, Gadag – 92, Haveri – 93, Uttara Kannada – 54, Beglaum – 92, Bijapur – 81, Bagalkot – 96, Raichur – 47, Koppal – 61, Bellary – 55, Gulbarga – 54, Bidar – 61.
