Sixteen schoolboys for Arsenal festival

KOLKATA: Sixteen schoolboys have been selected to the Tata Tea Jaago Re Soccer Stars squad which will participate in the Arsenal International Soccer Festival in London.

The selected players will reach London on Monday for a 10-day trip.

The boys were picked from the final camp of the Tata Tea-sponsored programme held at the Calcutta Cricket and Football Club. Two specialist coaches from the Arsenal FC Academy — Paul Shipwright and Kurt Maginley — conducted the camp.

In all 32 players picked from different stages of the nationwide inter-school tournament held previously under this programme, were introduced to the finer nuances of the game by the Arsenal academy coaches.

The two coaches, assisted by the head scout of the programme, Jamshed Nasiri, picked the 16 players for the London festival.

In all 6,000 schoolboys from around 500 schools took part in the multi-tiered under-15 tournament. — Principal Correspondent
