Kesava shines

VIJAYAWADA: Kesava Kumar (three for 11 and five for 45) helped Kurnool defeat Chittoor by an innings and 135 runs in the ACA South Zone u-16 inter-district tournament for the A.V. Narasimha Reddy memorial trophy at Anantapur on Monday.

The other match between Anantapur and Nellore ended in a draw.

The scores: Kurnool 356 bt Chittoor 70 in 31.1 overs (Kesava Kumar three for 11, Rana Pratap three for 28) and 151 in 53.3 overs (C.R. Tejeswar 71, Kesava Kumar five for 45, C. Vinod Kumar three for 34).

Anantapur 180 and 131 for seven in 52 overs (Manoj Kumar four for 41) drew with Nellore 184 in 58.5 overs (Aswin Hebbar 64, S. Irfan Basha seven for 79).

Badminton tournament

The Krishna District Badminton Association’s District championship-cum-selection tournament will be held on August 2 and 3 at the Samvida Vidya Peeth Stadium.

Prasad is manager

Andhra State Carrom Association general secretary M.K.V. Prasad has been appointed manager of the Indian men’s team for the 13th SAARC countries tournament to be held in Mumbai from August 7 to 9.

Selection tournament

As many as 37 players were selected to take part in the Krishna District u-14 selection tournament to be held at Siddhartha Medical College grounds from Tuesday. Three teams were formed and they will play a round-robin league tournament.
