TIRUCHI: Low cost carrier Air Asia has announced the introduction of a second daily service on the Kuala Lumpur-Tiruchi-Kuala Lumpur sector from September 1. The move follows the overwhelming response to its existing service. Tiruchi was the first destination in India serviced by Air Asia and since its introduction on December 1, 2008, the airline has flown close to 70,000 passengers. The airline operates a 180-seater Airbus A 320. The airline has also announced an introductory fare offer at Rs.1,730 for the second service and bookings opened on Tuesday for the period from September 1, 2009 to April 30, 2010. The promotional seats will be limited and available on first-come, first-served basis through www.airasia.com and mobile.airasia.com. “We are proud to be servicing an underserved route and opening up the market to the world. Tiruchi is a highly popular destination for its pilgrimage centres. In fact, within the first month of flying to India, we have enjoyed a load factor of 100 per cent. We feel it is timely to add a second frequency,” said Kathleen Tan, Regional Head (Commercial), Air Asia Group, in a press release. While the existing service is in the morning, the second one will be in the evening. The flight (AK 237) will depart from Kuala Lumpur at 3.15 p.m. and reach Tiruchi at 4.30 p.m. and in return direction the flight (AK 238) will depart from Tiruchi at 5 p.m. and reach Kuala Lumpur at 11.15 p.m. (all local time).
