Staff Reporter

NELLORE: Corporators of TDP and CPI (M) organised a protest demanding the Municipal Corporation of Nellore (MCN) commissioner to conduct elections for Ward Committees.

Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Mayor Madala Venkateswarlu said as per the Municipal Act, drinking water, street lights, sanitation, maintenance of roads, drainages and schools, functioning of revenue, city planning and engineering departments should be done under the supervision of Ward Committees.

The Ward Committee chairpersons should meet once for every 15 days to discuss the problems and the Standing Committee meeting should be arranged every week.

As there were no chairpersons for Ward Committees meetings were not conducted regularly and many public issues were pending in the city, he alleged.

Memorandum

The corporators submitted a memorandum to commissioner T.S.R. Anjaneyulu to take steps for electing the chairpersons and organise council meetings regularly.
