‘Piped gas to households in 3 years’

YSR tells contractors to come out with action plan in a fortnight

INCAP appointed single window clearance agency for natural gas distribution network

Public sector oil firms asked to release 10 lakh domestic gas connections per year

HYDERABAD: Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy has said that plans are afoot to distribute piped gas to all households in the twin cities, Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam, Tirupati and Kakinada within three years.

He asked Bhagyanagar Gas Limited, which was awarded the contract for city gas distribution network from Kakinada, to prepare a concrete action plan for providing piped gas connections to all consumers in the State Capital within three years.

At a meeting with officials here on Tuesday, he assured all help to the company or consortiums to achieve the target. The Bhagyanagar Gas Limited officials were asked to come out with an action plan in a fortnight. He informed the company officials that INCAP was appointed the single window clearance agency for natural gas distribution network in the State.

At another meeting, Dr. Reddy asked public sector oil companies to release 10 lakh domestic gas connections per year in the State. Stating that there was considerable demand for the new LPG connections, he said 40 per cent of the 10 lakh connections would be earmarked for the Deepam connections.

Deepam connections

He asked the oil coordinator to hold discussions with the oil companies and come out with a definite action plan. He said government was willing to take as many Deepam connections as possible for distribution.

There are 1.14 crore LP connections in the State against 1.85 crore households. The number of Deepam connections stood at 1.70 lakh. He said at least 10 lakh connections were needed per year to ensure that 50 lakh consumers got the new connections.

Kerosene diversion

The Chief Minister was informed that lifting of kerosene till the end of the month was leading to diversion of kerosene.

There it was decided to streamline the distribution by fixing time frame for lifting of stock by the wholesalers, fair price shops and the card holders.

Oil companies should communicate the orders to the depots for release to the wholesalers so that the lifting could begin on the 1st of every month.

Lifting of kerosene by the wholesalers should be from first of the month to 20th, he said. He directed officials to see that the card holders drew their quota till 25th of every month.
