5-year-old girl killed

CHENNAI: A UKG student was killed and another injured when a school van ran over them at Soorapattu in Ambattur on Tuesday.

According to police sources, K. Ranjani (5) and M. Yuvaraj (5) studying in a private school in Puzhal were dropped near their house by the school van on Tuesday evening.

The driver drove the vehicle in reverse direction without noticing that the two children were standing behind it.

They came under the wheels of the van.

While Ranjani died soon after admission in a private hospital, Yuvaraj escaped with minor injuries. The driver, J. Raghavan (28), was arrested. The Poonamallee Traffic Investigation police have registered a case, the sources said.
