Rise in women literacy a positive indicator, says Gopalaswami

Staff Reporter

TIRUCHI: “Women’s education is vital for strengthening our society. It is a matter of pride that women’s literacy rate has been on the rise, a positive indicator for achieving the overall development of our society,” observed former Chief Election Commissioner N. Gopalaswami.

Addressing the students of the girls’ institutions being run by the Padma Bhushan Sri N. Ramaswami Ayyar Educational Complex here on Monday, Mr. Gopalaswami said that such institutions not only imparted education but also discipline and values to the students in tune with national culture and heritage.

Character moulding

Moulding students’ character was an important responsibility of educational institutions and, that way, the college and schools being run by the Complex had set right goals decades ago. He appealed to the students to be proud of their alma mater and emerge as good citizens.

Complex secretary R. Panchapakesan, Seethalakshmi Ramaswami College Principal G. Kalyani, SVS Higher Secondary School Headmistress M. Malarvizhy were among those present.

A ‘bhajan’ was held in which students and staff of the Complex participated.
