HYDERABAD: Finance Minister K. Rosaiah and Telugu Desam member G. Muddukrishnama Naidu were engaged in a fierce verbal duel in the Assembly on Tuesday, over the latter’s demand for a response from the Chief Minister to “a false case” registered against TDP deputy leader N. Janardhan Reddy under the SC/ST Prevention of Atrocities Act. Shortly before the House adjourned for the day, Telugu Desam members rose en bloc to demand a reply from the Chief Minister in fulfilment of the government’s assurance when the issue was first raised during Zero Hour earlier by Mr. Janardhan Reddy. They shouted down Mr. Rosaiah down when he tried to speak. Mr. Muddukrishnama Naidu asked Mr. Rosaiah, “who are you to intervene? We want the Chief Minister to reply”. Turning angry, the Minister retorted, “you think you are the only man among your colleagues? You have no sense of shame or respect.” Both of them shouted at each other but the words they uttered were muffled in the din caused by slogan-shouting by Telugu Desam members demanding a reply from the Chief Minister. Earlier, during the Zero Hour, Telugu Desam members raised a protest following which Speaker N. Kiran Kumar Reddy adjourned the House for tea break. Mr. Janardhan Reddy said a case under SC/ST Prevention of Atrocities Act was foisted against him merely because he spoke against the misuse of funds at a social audit meeting of the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme in Mahabubnagar district on July 25. He pleaded that the Chair must come to his rescue as the Civil Supplies Minister Jupalli Krishna Rao was working against him. It may be recalled that P. Bangaraiah, a beneficiary of NREGS, had lodged a police complaint that the TDP MLA along with his followers joined the meeting mid way and began to create chaos. When he objected, he was abused by his caste name by Mr. Janardhan Reddy and manhandled.
