Day train between Karwar, Bangalore sought

Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI: Lok Sabha members from coastal Karnataka have urged the Railway Ministry to introduce a day train between Bangalore and Karwar via Hassan, Mangalore, Udupi and Kundapur, and extend the Mumbai-Karwar super-fast (as announced in the budget) up to Mangalore.

They also wanted the present Bangalore-Mangalore night train to be extended to Karwar through the coastal route and drop the proposal to extend it to Kannur in Kerala.

In a memorandum to Union Minister of State for Railways K.H. Muniyappa, the MPs — Nalin Kumar Kateel (Dakshina Kannada), D.V. Sadananda Gowda (Udupi-Chikmagalur) and Ananth Kumar Hegde (Uttara Kannada), and Karnataka’s special representative in Delhi V. Dhananjaya Kumar said the people of coastal Karnataka had been deprived of their right and had been totally ignored.
