KOCHI: The Co-operative Medical College at Kalamassery organised an anti-ragging meet here on Wednesday. The event was part of the State-wide initiative against the menace launched by the universities in association with the State Legal Services Authority. Godfrey Louiz, Pro Vice-Chancellor of Cochin University of Science and Technology, inaugurated the programme. He urged the student community to join hands against the barbarism of the campus kind. Dr. Louiz said that stringent action will be taken against those found involved in ragging incidents on the campus. K. Sathyan, Additional Sub Judge, delivered the keynote address. P. G. R. Pillai, Medical Director of Co-operative Medical College, gave a special address on the occasion. Roy Abraham Kallivayalil, Principal, presided. K. R. Mohanan, lawyer representing the Bar Association, Kochi, spoke on the law against ragging while K. Krishnan Kutty, Assistant Police Commissioner, delivered a lecture on steps being taken by the Police to check ragging. Papers on the role of parents and teachers in preventing ragging were presented on the occasion. Dr. Pillai said that the college had launched anti-ragging squads and surveillance units on the campus. He said that leaflets and brochures highlighting the messages against ragging were also distributed among students.
