CHANDIGARH: Haryana Irrigation Minister Ajay Singh Yadav has urged Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to direct the Union Water Resources Ministry to speed up construction of the Renuka dam. In a demi-official letter to the Prime Minister, Mr. Yadav said that the Haryana Government was ready to deposit Rs.100 crore as its ad hoc share with the Renuka dam authorities for the construction of the dam. He said the cost of the proposed dam should be shared by the co-basin States in the same ratio in which they share the water of the Yamuna under the Yamuna Accord which was executed in 1994. The Renuka, Kishau and Lakhwar Vyasi dams had been declared as national projects by the Union Government and only 10 per cent of the cost had to be shared by the co-basin States, he said. Thus the construction of the dams could be taken up without any further delay. The Minister said he had also written DO letters to Sonia Gandhi and theUnion Water Resources Minister.
