PALAKKAD: The Veda Rakshana Samithi, which is engaged in the preservation of the Vedas, has taken up a project for the development of a Vedic interpretation centre here. The centre will display the utensils used in Yagas and will have modern facilities, including touch screen computers. The Samithi has also initiated steps for the development of Maha Mahopadhyaya Noorani Anantha Krishna Sashtrigal Memorial Library and the Dr. Swamintha Kariakar Memorial Centre for Sanskrit Studies. The Samithi has been running a Veda Patasala (school) in Ramanathapuram in the heart of the town for the last many years. The Chandrasekharendra Saraswathi Sankaracharya Veda Patasala run by it is one of the very few Patasalas in the country where all the four Vedas are being taught in the traditional oral chanting way. It has engaged highly qualified scholars to teach the 52 students now studying in the Patasala. The Rig Veda is taught by Brahmasri Bellamgonda Sreenivasa Vajapayi Nithya Agnihotri. The Yajurveda is taught by Brahmasri Giridhara Ganapadigal of Lalgudi, who is Salashana Ganapati and a Sooradhyayi also. He is assisted by Brahmasri Ramanatha Sarma of Kadyanallur. Brahmasri Prem Kumar is teaching the Sama Veda. In order to preserve the Atharvana Veda, which is slowly making its exit from the Indian sub-continent, the governing body of the Veda Rakshana Samithi has obtained the services of Dvivedi Br. Manoranjan Pathi from Orissa. There are five students from Uttar Pradesh learning Atharvana Veda in the Patasala.
