Priyank Kharge has assets worth Rs. 5.23 crore

BJP candidate for Chittapur Assembly constituency, Valmiki K. Naik, has assets of Rs. 82.40 lakh

GULBARGA: Priyank Kharge, the younger son of Union Minister for Labour and Employment M. Mallikarjun Kharge, who is the Congress candidate for the byelection from Chittapur (reserved) Assembly constituency, has assets totalling Rs. 5.23 crore, including cash, gold ornaments, agricultural land, non-agricultural land and buildings.

Mr. Priyank Kharge’s wife, Shruthi P. Kharge, is worth Rs. 20.33 lakh. A major portion of it is in gold jewellery and silverware worth Rs. 10.88 lakh. While Mr. Priyank Kharge has Rs. 50,000 in hand and Rs. 51.66 lakh as deposits in various banks, Ms. Shruthi Kharge has Rs. 1 lakh in hand and Rs. 7.60 lakh as deposit. They have a fixed deposit of Rs. 2 lakh in their son Amitav Kharge’s name. There are also financial instruments worth Rs. 18.07 lakh in their son’s name.

Mr. Priyank Kharge, who has shares, bonds and debentures worth Rs. 14.75 lakh, also has Rs. 2 lakh in other financial instruments. His wife has an investment of Rs. 85,000 in HDFC Mutual Fund. Mr. Priyank Kharge also owns gold ornaments and silverware worth over Rs. 7.51 lakh and other assets in the form of claims and interest from other investments worth Rs. 9.57 lakh.

Land

Surprisingly neither Mr. Priyank Kharge nor his wife own a vehicle. Mr. Priyank Kharge also owns agricultural land worth Rs. 27.08 lakh in his ancestral village of Gundagurthi in Gulbarga district and non-agricultural land in Bangalore worth Rs. 2.35 crore.

He also owns buildings, commercial and residential, in Bangalore worth Rs. 1.16 crore.

Mr. Priyank Kharge’s liabilities include loans totalling Rs. 14.24 lakh taken from his mother, Radhabai Kharge, his father, Mr. Mallikarjun Kharge, and other sources.

Naik’s assets

In contrast, Bharatiya Janata Party candidate Valmiki K. Naik has assets totalling Rs. 82.40 lakh and liabilities in the form of loans amounting to Rs. 7.50 lakh. His son Vithal Valmiki Naik has assets worth Rs. 40.58 lakh and owns a petrol station at Nalwar, the value of which has not been mentioned.

Mr. Valmiki Naik owns a four-wheeler and a tractor and his son owns two two-wheelers. However, he did not mention how much the vehicles are worth in the returns filed before the Returning Officer of the Chittapur (reserved) Assembly constituency.

Mr. Valmiki Naik has Rs. 4.5 lakh in hand, Rs. 1.50 lakh as bank deposit, Rs. 60,000 invested in shares, and Rs. 3.05 lakh in other instruments. He owns gold worth Rs. 6.50 lakh. He also owns agricultural land worth Rs. 49 lakh, non-agricultural land worth Rs. 3 lakh and buildings worth Rs. 14 lakh.

His wife, Sonabai, owns a stone polishing machine and a non-agricultural plot worth Rs. 3 lakh. She also has Rs. 75,000 in hand Rs. 40,000 as bank deposit and owns gold jewellery worth Rs. 2.25 lakh and silverware worth Rs. 75,000.

Mr. Vithal Valmiki Naik has Rs. 25,000 in hand and Rs. 8,000 as bank deposit. He has invested Rs. 5 lakh in LIC, owns gold jewellery worth Rs. 2.25 lakh, agricultural land worth Rs. 9 lakh and a house worth Rs. 15 lakh in Wadi town in Gulbarga district.
