KARIMNAGAR: Superintendent of Police M. Stephen Ravindra was abruptly transferred and posted as DCP (East zone) in Hyderabad on Thursday. Mr. Ravindra occupied the Karimnagar SP post on June 25 and after that he participated in the police constables recruitment process till July 24. In order to bring in reforms in the policing, he started constituting ‘grama rakshana’ committees (village protection committees) to involve village youth in the policing to maintain law and order. He also launched a crusade against the ragging with the caption of “Quit ragging for happy days”. On the naxalite front, he started counselling the former naxalites by visiting interior villages and educating them to desist from joining naxalite fold. But, the sudden transfer of the SP had completely demoralised entire police department in the district. This is the first time in the history of Karimnagar district police, the SPs have been transferred within a short duration. Earlier, the predecessor of Mr. Ravindra, Vikram Singh Mann was transferred after short tenure of only four months. Vikram Singh Mann was instrumental in ensuring violence free general elections in the district. It is being alleged that Mr. Ravindra was transferred to Hyderabad as he was not succumbing to the political pressures from the ruling party on the transfers of the Sub Inspectors and Circle Inspectors. The district police officials are worried about the frequent transfers of the SPs in this naxalite-sensitive district.
