BANGALORE: India’s Rehan Poncha and Sandeep Sejwal notched up National records at the FINA World swimming championships in Rome on Thursday. Poncha set a National mark in the 200m backstroke at 2min 6.92s bettering the existing record of 2:08.15s. On Wednesday, Poncha hoisted National record in the 200m individual medley with 2:06.29s, breaking the old mark of 2:08.13s. Sejwal signed off his campaign with his third National record, this time in the 200m breaststroke clocking 2:13.22s, clipping a little over 2 seconds off his previous National best time in the process. Sejwal finished 32nd out of 79 competitors, and fifth among the Asians in the fray. Agnishwar, who also competed in the 200m breaststroke, clocked his personal best of 2:24.49s and finished 59th. Following his performances in the 50m and 100m breaststroke events, Sejwal has entered the FINA Top 100 rankings in both events. In the 50m breaststroke he is now ranked 61 and in the 100m breaststroke he is 66th.
