An initiation into the world of epics

Staff Reporter

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Kerala State Institute of Children’s Literature has prepared a Ramayana month gift for children — a 480-page, picture-rich adaptation of the Valmiki Ramayanam.

The institute claims that this is for the first time that a children’s edition of the epic is being brought out in Malayalam. The adaptation has been done by noted Sanskrit scholar N. V. P. Unnithiri.

The pictures in the book have been done by Chennai-based Usha Krishnaswami.

The book, which has been prepared completely in art paper, has been priced at Rs.500. ‘Ramayanam-2009’ will be released by Education Minister M. A. Baby at a function to be held at the institute office at 3 p.m. on Friday.

The book will be sold along with an attractive gift box, the institute has informed.
