Lights out campaign

Staff Reporter

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: In order to remind the public about the fallout of global warming, a ‘99999 lights out campaign’ was inaugurated at Kendriya Vidyalaya, Pattom, in association with Exnora International, a leading environmental organisation based in Chennai, on Thursday.

The event was organised as a symbolic protest against the wastage and misuse of electricity. The name ‘99999 lights’ means a nine-minute public display of unison, when everyone will switch off their lights for nine minutes at 9 p.m. on the ninth day of the ninth month of the ninth year of this millennium, in support of the fight against ‘Global Warming.’ Chief Secretary Neela Gangadaran launched the campaign. M.B. Nirmal, chairman, Exnora International, delivered the keynote address.
