Suresh claimed six for 21, including a hat-trick

Anirudha, Ashwin and Rajesh shone for Aruna


Chennai: India Pistons left-arm spinner M. Suresh Babu claimed six for 21, including a hat-trick and a 10-wicket match haul, as Southern Railway was skittled out for 38 in its second innings on the second day of the fifth round matches of the TNCA first division league here on Thursday.

On a day when wickets tumbled at the CPT-IP ground, off-spinner M. Prabhu supported Suresh Babu well with four for 17. In the morning, Southern Railway, resuming at 223 for five in its first innings, was all out for 236.

Suresh Babu took four wickets while Prabhu and paceman M.R. Shrinivas grabbed three wickets each.

Then, off-spinner P. Prashant (eight for 57) assumed the role of a destroyer as India Pistons was bowled out for 165. Set a target of 110, Pistons was 26 for one at stumps.

S. Suresh scalped seven batsmen with his medium pacers enabling Vijay dismiss Indian Bank for 215 at the IC-Guru Nanak ground.

Vijay was 356 for two in reply after opener K.B. Arun Karthick (160, 184b, 14x4, 2x6) and S. Suresh Kumar (123 batting, 187b, 9x4, 3x6) added 254 for the second wicket in 58 overs.

The in-form Karthick has so far made 476 runs this season with three centuries. Earlier, Abhinav Mukund contributed 57 (53b, 10x4); the openers put on 91 in 12.4 overs.

Karthik hits 237

Dinesh Karthik, overnight 174, constructed an innings of 237 (303b, 29x4, 2x6) for Jolly Rovers against Globe Trotters at the IIT-Chemplast ground; the host declared at 479 for eight.

Trotters was 133 for two in reply with Sunny Gupta on 74 (153b, 9x4).

Centuries from opener S. Anirudha (123, 195b, 12x4, 1x6), Ashwin Venkataraman (109, 181b, 9x4, 2x6) and M.P. Rajesh (110, 217b, 9x4, 1x6) enabled Aruna declare at 455 for seven against IOB at the RKM-Vivekananda ground.

Ashwin and Rajesh gathered 206 for the fifth wicket in 63.3 overs.

Young Stars fought back to reduce UFCC (T. Nagar) to 102 for six before a seventh wicket partnership of 79 between Shravan Krishnan (48 not out) and M. Lakshminarayanan (48) took the batting side, pursuing 116 for the lead, to a more comfortable 223 at the SRMC ground. Sambasiva Sarma scored 62 (134b, 9x4).

Replying to Parry’s 105, Grand Slam progressed to 145 for six on a truncated day at the Murugappa ground. Hemang Badani was unbeaten on 42.

The scores: Round five (second day): At CPT-IP: Southern Railway 236 in 99.2 overs (P. Hariraj 105, P. Prashant 60, M. Suresh Babu four for 62) & 38 in 17.3 overs (M. Suresh Babu six for 21 (including a hat-trick), M. Prabhu four for 17) vs India Pistons 165 in 54 overs (P. Prashant eight for 57) & 26 for one in 4.2 overs.

At IIT-Chemplast: Jolly Rovers 479 for eight decl. in 131.2 overs (D. Karthik 237, R. Satish 117) vs Globe Trotters 133 for two in 45 overs (Sunny Gupta 74 batting).

At IC-Guru Nanak: Indian Bank 215 in 103.5 overs (Vijay Shankar 62, Mohsin Basha 48, S. Suresh seven for 46) vs Vijay 356 for two in 74 overs (Abhinav Mukund 57, K.B. Arun Karthick 160, S. Suresh Kumar 123 batting).

At Murugappa: Parry’s 105 vs Grand Slam 145 for six in 61.4 overs (Hemang Badani 42 not out).

At SRMC: Young Stars 115 & 10 without loss in four overs vs UFCC (T. Nagar) 223 in 85.5 overs (Sambasiva Sarma 62, Shravan Krishnan 48 not out, M. Lakshminarayan 48).

At RKM-Viveka: Aruna 455 for seven decl. in 143 overs (K. Hari Prasad 43, S. Anirudha 123, Ashwin Venkataraman 109, M.P. Rajesh 110) vs IOB 24 without loss.
