Gold Medal for the “First in Overall Order of Merit” was awarded to Mobi Lourembam VISAKHAPATNAM: A ceremonial parade was held at the Naval Shipwright School here on Friday on the occasion of completion of course by Shipwright Apprentices of the Indian Navy. This is the 121st batch of the school. The Shipwright Artificers will be posted to various ships of the Indian Navy where they will be responsible for the maintenance of the ship’s hull and other associated equipment. Officer-in-Charge of Naval Shipwright School Shantanu Bose reviewed the parade. The Gold Medal for the “First in Overall Order of Merit” was awarded to Mobi Lourembam and Best in Parade trophy was awarded to Devendra Kumar Singh. The course comprises 130 weeks of training in various facets of Naval Architecture, Ship Building and Maintenance. The curriculum is a mix of theoretical training and extensive practical training on various aspects of maintaining a sophisticated and complex modern warship. The practical training included hands-on training and on modern simulators at the Naval Shipwright School. Regular military training like drill, parade, firing and handling of weapons was imparted and the trainees participated in adventure camps, expeditions, sports and extracurricular activities. A valedictory function was held in the evening at the Naval Shipwright School and proficiency awards given to the teaching and support staff of the school for outstanding and dedicated services during the training year. The function also had variety entertainment programme put up by the under-trainees giving a glimpse of their multi-faceted talents.
