DINDIGUL: Tamil Nadu 14 Battalion NCC will withdraw its activities from two Government Schools at Vedasandur and Vadmadurai and Akshaya Vidhyalaya in Dindigul, as NCC activities were completely paralysed for the past one and a half years in these institutions, said NCC Group Commander Col. B.N. Chetan. He was talking to presspersons after inspecting guard of honour on the battalion premises here on Friday. Neither the principal nor the teachers in government schools took much interest in operating NCC in their schools. No teacher was deputed to look after NCC activities in these schools for a long time, he added. Over 100 students would be affected in these schools. Excellent career opportunities and human resource development activities available in the NCC would be totally denied to students in government schools, mostly poor and downtrodden, the group commander deplored. Teachers’ job in the NCC is not so difficult. They have to conduct 40 parades and they will get a stipend of Rs.1,000. Unfortunately, teachers were not interested, he added. “We will take up the matter to the Director of Education and lodge a complaint.” We did not face such problems in other places like Thanjavur, Thiruvarur and Thiruchi districts under Tiruchi Group. We have been facing these problems in Dindigul district only. Already, we had withdrawn NCC activities from M.V.M. Government Arts College for Women in Dindigul. Later, the Colonel honoured the cadets who took part in R-Day parade.
