“Demonstrate how EVMs can be tampered with”

Special Correspondent

CHENNAI: The Election Commission has asked Pattali Makkal Katchi president G.K. Mani to demonstrate how electronic voting machines can be tampered with.

Letter to Mani

In a letter dated July 22 to Mr. Mani, Commission secretary K. Ajay Kumar stated: “As far as the EVMs used by Election Commission of India in our elections are concerned, the Election Commission of India is sure of its non-tamperability. However, since the allegation is grave in nature, to say the least, and the implications are serious, the Election Commission of India has decided to ask you to demonstrate the so-called manipulation on the EVMs… in actual practice at its premises under its observation. You are requested to please indicate a time and date convenient to you within the next few days urgently.”

A PMK release said many parties had complained that the EVMs could be tampered with.

The PMK had also filed a petition in the High Court. It had urged the Commission to give an opportunity for demonstrating how the EVMs could be tampered with.
