IOB in semifinals

CHENNAI: Indian Overseas Bank overwhelmed Sports Authority of India ‘B’ 10-1 in the quarterfinals of the Finpro Sports Management hockey tournament at the Mayor Radhakrishnan Stadium here on Friday. IOB led 3-0 at half-time.

Earlier, Southern Railway moved into the semifinals with a 3-0 victory over Central Excise after leading 2-0 at the breather.

Led by Arun Stalin, IOB began the goal glut in the seventh minute and went on to score at regular intervals. Stalin accounted for two goals while Iyappan slotted in three.

Olympian Adam Sinclair was a little subdued and scored just one goal. Gopinath (2), Vinod Rayar and Albert John were the other scorers for IOB. The consolation goal for SAI was scored by Hyderli in the dying minutes.

In the other quarterfinal, Southern Railway held the whiphand throughout, profiting from goals by Karan and Ganesh in the first half and Mahindra Singh in the second.

Tirush Kamini sizzles

Powered by M.D. Tirush Kamini’s 158, MOP Vaishnav beat SDNB Vaishnav by 58 runs to win the Shri Nanalal Bhatt memorial tournament for women.

The scores: Final: MOP Vaishnav 199 for four in 20 overs (Tirush Kamini 158) bt SDNB Vaishnav 141 for eight (Sinduja 51 n.o.).

Semifinals: SDNB 123 for three in 20 overs (Ramya 33) bt Stella Maris 76 for seven (O. Tabasum Fathima 31 n.o., Swetha three for eight, Revathi three for 18).

MOP 137 for seven in 20 overs (Tirush Kamani 37, Anitha three for 22) bt AM Jain 73 for seven in 20 overs (Anitha 41 n.o., Usha three for 15).

Ram in lead

Ram S. Krishnan gained sole lead of the Adyar Times FIDE-rated open chess tournament with a fourth-round win over R.K. Ranjith here on Friday.

Cricket trials

Trials to select the city under-16 round-robin cricket teams (open) will be held from August 10 to 12. Those born on or after September 1, 1993, can register their names with the TNCA Office on or before Aug. 8 by 6 p.m. Registration forms can be had from the TNCA office from Aug. 1 on all working days between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m.

Schools’ table tennis

The Krishna Das Purushotham Das Trophy schools table tennis tournament will be held on August 7 and 8 at the SDAT-Medimix Academy premises. The events will be held in two categories: Std. VIII and below and Std. XII and below. Entries close on August 5 with J. Selvakumar at 94441 44482 and Dilip Kumar (94442 67844)

SDAT-Dolphin Swimming Academy has received ISO 2001:2008 certification for quality — providing competitive training, training for beginners, fitness training and maintenance —from Integrated Assessment Services (P) Ltd.
