Students of Nalanda Vidya Niketan in Vijayawada dazzle in ethnic wear at the ’Beauty & Brains’ competition organised on the school premises on Saturday.

VIJAYAWADA: Dressed in their best, boys and girls of Nalanda Vidya Niketan walked the ramp on their school’s premises on Saturday. They answered the questions posed by judges with aplomb and ease in the pageant titled ‘Beauty and Brains,’ an inter-house event conducted by the school.

In line with the prescribed costume code – ‘ethnic wear’ – all the participants turned up in dazzling attires. The boys were allowed to wear only shades of blue, while the girls had to turn up in dresses with shades of red.

Daring the scorching sun, boys and girls did the ramp walk in the afternoon with the ethnic wear and imitation jewellery.

Many boys preferred to wear sherwanis while girls dressed up as brides of different regions of the country. Some participants tried costumes from recent blockbusters like ‘Jodha Akbar’.

The school selected judges from the parents of its students and the questions to the participants related to their hobbies, future plans and the importance of beauty and brains.

Good anchoring

The anchoring of the show, except for a few jokes cracked on ‘Sardarjis,’ was free of any extremes and kept the momentum of the show. Welcoming their friends on to the dais with whistles and hoots, students enlivened the show. Their joy knew no bounds when the participants deftly answered the questions shot at by the judges.

A few students fumbled in the ramp walk and in answering the queries too.

At the end of the event, S. Raja Sai Santosh and G. Shravya in junior category and Ch. Lakshay and K. Bhavana of the State syllabus category were declared winners.

Earlier in the day, school correspondent A. Vijaya Babu inaugurated the painting competition, which was conducted in three categories – pot painting, glass painting and fabric painting. School principal Praveen Sarma, vice-principal Sudha and others were present.
