Development works in Salem reviewed

Officials told to speed up implementation

SALEM: Secretary of Municipal Administration and Water Supply Niranjan Mardi on Saturday reviewed the progress of various development programmes being carried out by the Salem Corporation and municipalities in Salem and Namakkal districts.

Interacting with the Commissioners, engineers and senior officials of urban local bodies located in the two districts at a meeting held here, he asked them to speed up the implementation of the development programmes. The local administrations should take steps to ensure quality during the execution of the development works, he said.

Later, Mr. Mardi inspected the construction of apartment buildings under the Integrated Housing and Slum Development programme at Chinnammapalayam here. The Corporation is constructing 172 houses under the programme.

He also visited the site selected for the construction of a modern compost yard under the solid waste management programme of the corporation at Chettichavadi.

He inspected the construction of a modern crematorium at Kakayan burial ground, overhead tanks built under the Added Area Water Supply scheme and the second phase of the Tirumanimutharu river project. Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Tamil Nadu Urban Infrastructure Financial Services Limited Phanindra Reddy, Director of Municipal Administration P. Senthilkumar, Corporation Commissioner K.S. Palanisamy and senior officials accompanied him during the inspection.
