VIRUDHUNAGAR: Field officers appointed to verify the genuineness of ration cards should make door-to-door visit and not invite people to a common place with their family cards, Collector Sigy Thomas Vaidhyan has said. In a statement issued here on Saturday, she said that people should not entertain any such requests from the field officers. Any such incident should be reported to the Taluk Supply Officer, District Supply and Consumer Protection Officer or the Collector over telephone. The 100 per cent verification of 5.43 lakh ration cards that began here on Saturday would be done on Saturdays and Sundays in August. The field officers have been trained to visit houses and fill up the forms. Card holders have to produce their ration cards, cooking gas connection card, electricity card and the voter identity cards. A total of 1,400 persons would be involved in the work. The Collector inspected the field work at Muthuramanpatti and Soundamman Temple Street. Officials should take utmost care in verifying cards as the main objective was to weed out bogus cards, said Collector M. Vallalar. Talking to press persons at Natham after inspecting the work on 100 per cent verification of ration cards which started in the district here on Saturday, he said that 1,500 persons, including teachers and government employees, had been deputed for the door-to-door verification. About 335 employees from revenue department, 974 teachers in primary schools, and 91 from other departments will be engaged in this work. An officer in sub-collector level would supervise the field staff. The exercise would continue till August 31, he added. Cooperation of people was essential to complete the project successfully. If the verification official did not turn up, card holders may pass the information to the District Supply Officer, he said. The Collector also inspected Chinnayapuram and Abirami Kuppam in Dindigul municipality and several villages in Natham.
