New scheme for issuing birth certificates

VILLUPURAM: Collector (in charge) C. Kathiravan inaugurated a scheme for issuing birth certificates on the same day of birth of a child, at Kiliyanur Primary Health Centre, near here on Saturday.
Mr. Kathiravan said that Villupuram district was a forerunner in launching the scheme.
Two years ago, it introduced the procedure, and distributed 22,000 birth certificates in 2007and 28,000 certificates in 2008. In case of deliveries taking place at home, the details would be collected and the certificates given within a timeframe. Mr. Kathiravan said government hospitals had also been directed to issue death certificates on the same day of the demise.
