Damage to place of worship leads to protest

Staff Reporter

ANANTAPUR: A group of people belonging to a particular community blocked the vehicular traffic on the NH-7 between Penukonda and Somandepalli in the district on Saturday protesting against the damage caused to a place of worship during blasting of hillocks by contractors of the road widening work.

According to the information reaching here, blasting was done for four-laning of the NH-7. Pieces of rocks fell on a place of worship located on the other side of the road at the work site due to the intensity of the blast which allegedly damaged some portions of the structure around it. Protesters blocked the road and demanded compensation for causing the damage. Police intervened and pacified the protesters after speaking to the contractors to resolve the matter.
