Kozhikode: Abdul Halim, third accused in the twin blast case here, was on Saturday taken to the Kerala State Road Transport Corporation and mofussil bus stations on Mavoor Road where improvised explosive devices had gone off on March 3, 2006, injuring a constable and a porter. The Crime Branch said Halim, an expert in making bombs, had told interrogators that he had made the devices in a rented room at Anakkulam in Kannur town. Early this week, he was taken to Kannur, from where he hails. He had told the interrogators that he had not planted the bombs. Thadiyantavide Nazir, alias Ummar Haji, an accused in several terror-linked cases in various parts of the country, had masterminded the blasts. Investigators suspect that Nazir is in Pakistan. Crime Branch officers said that Halim had been taken to the bus stations since they did not completely believe what he had told the interrogators. He had been trained in fudging interrogation techniques, they said. Moreover, the key suspects are absconding. The officials asked the porters at the bus stations if they could identify Halim. The two blasts had taken place within ten minutes of each other. The first explosion went off at around 12.50 p.m. The Crime Branch arrested Halim from Kochi last week. The Judicial First Class Magistrate’s Court III here on Monday remanded him in police custody for 10 days.
