A Raj Kumar sculpture on display. NEW DELHI: An eight-day exhibition of sculptures and paintings titled “Freedom of Desire” opened at the All-India Fine Arts and Crafts Society gallery on Rafi Marg here on Saturday. Art critic Keshav Malik and sculptor Ram Sutar inaugurated the exhibition that showcases the works of four artists: Biswaroop Sur, Shashi Paul, Ashoka Sarkar and Raj Kumar. The USP of Biswaroop Sur’s work is his deft handling of figurative and abstract compositions in earthy shades. The acrylic and wall textures visible in his art give the feeing of the artist’s roots being deeply embedded in tradition. Jharkhand’s Shashi Paul’s ease with diverse mediums such as installation, sculpture and murals is evident in his work. The artist, for whom the human body holds an infinite fascination, pursues his quest for dynamic figures using a linear structure and chisel work. Ashoka Sarkar grew up in Kolkata in an atmosphere of art and culture and was initiated into classical dance, music and painting during childhood. She uses her canvas as an expression of thoughts. Self-taught sculptor Raj Kumar depicts rural landscapes in his art.
