MANGALORE: Sri Rama Sene chief Pramod Muthalik has said that his organisation would oppose the forthcoming Friendship Day celebrations. “We need friends because friendship is the essence of life but we do not need Friendship Day,” he said. He was speaking to presspersons on the sidelines of a rally organised by his supporters on Saturday to mark his re-entry into the district. Mr. Muthalik, who was taken on a “Vijaya Yatra” here on Saturday, was banned from entering the city for a year by the district administration in March. The Karnataka High Court recently stayed the ban. Claiming that he had been leading agitations against “western influence on Indian culture” for the last decade, he said, “We are against the celebrations of days such as Lovers’ Day, Fathers’ Day.”
