Bham Bham Bhole!: Girls pouring holy water of the Krishna brought in a ‘kavadi’ over a Sivalinga at Gurunanak Colony in Vijayawada on Sunday. — VIJAYAWADA: The Shiv Bhakta Mandal, Gurunanak Colony, conducted a ‘kavadi yatra’ here on Sunday. A large number of devotees gathered at the Durga Ghat on the Krishna in the early hours and collected water in large vessels. They carried the vessels with the help of kavadis made of bamboo and rope, balanced on their shoulders. They then walked on MG Road and took the Ring Road at Benz Circle and reached Gurunanak Colony in a procession. On reaching the colony, they performed ‘abhishek’ to the ‘linga’ in the Sivalyam with the holy water. Govind Sharma, convener of the Shiv Bhakta Mandal, said that the yatra was performed every year in the auspicious month of ‘Sravan’. Hundreds of women and men, both young and old, participated in the yatra wearing saffron coloured dresses. Several teenagers participated in the yatra wearing saffron T-shirts. Members of the Vijayawada Brahmin Samaj, Vijayawada Maheswari Samaj, Vijayawada Agarwal Samaj, Vijayawada Rajpurohit Samaj, Jain Terapandh Yuvak Mandal and the Jain Digambar Samaj participated in the yatra.
