CAG plans audit of 25 unaided private schools

Staff Reporter

“To ensure that public money is not misused or abused”

Accounts, other records to be subject to examination by auditors and inspecting officials

‘Managing committee should maintain accounts of fees and contributions’

NEW DELHI: Comptroller and Auditor General of India will soon begin audit of 25 unaided private schools in the first phase of the process and examine the accounts and records maintained by them.

The accounts and other records maintained by unaided private schools would be subject to examination by auditors and inspecting officials and also by officials authorised by the Comptroller and Auditor General of India.

“The Delhi School and Education Act, 1973, and Rules mandates the audit of accounts and records of schools. Huge public money is involved in running of these unaided recognised private schools. Provisions were incorporated in the legislation to ensure that public money is not misused or abused by these schools,” noted a release issued by the Office of the Accountant General (Audit), Delhi.

It added that in keeping with the larger public interest and observations of the direction of the Delhi High Court, it has proposed to conduct audit of unaided private schools in close co-ordination with the Directorate of Education and the Delhi Government.

The Office of the Accountant General (Audit) has also noted that the managing committee of every recognised private school should annually file duly audited financial and other returns and maintain accounts of fees and contributions.

Schools to be audited in the first phase include National Victor Public School (IP Extension), Ryan International School (Gharuli), St. Xavier Sr. Secondary School (Raj Niwas Marg), Mother Divine Public School (Rohini), Sardar Patel School (Lodhi Estate), Modern School (Barakhamba Road), Convent of Jesus and Mary (Bangla Sahib Marg), Presentation Convent Sr. Secondary School (S.P. Mukherjee Marg), Maharaja Agarsen Model School (Pitampura), Amity International School (Saket) and G.D. Salwan Public School (Karol Bagh).
