Target 2014, says Kishen Reddy

Party launched membership drive after 10 years

VISAKHAPATNAM: BJP Legislature Party leader G. Kishen Reddy on Sunday said his party was gearing up to improve its strength in Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and West Bengal so as to capture power at the Centre in 2014.

Addressing a press conference here, he said the party had launched a membership drive after a gap of 10 years to enrol people committed to the party ideology.

“After coming to power in Karnataka, we are now targeting AP. We are moving in that direction and hopeful that by going it alone, we can do well in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation elections,” he declared.

Later, the party leaders including BJP national executive member K. Haribabu, former State president P.V. Chalapathi Rao, city president P.V. Narayana Rao, former chairman of Bar Council of India D.V. Subba Rao and State secretary Bandaru Rangamohan Rao felicitated him.

Mr. Kishen Reddy came down heavily on the UPA Government at the Centre and the Congress Government in the State for their failure to check price rise.

Price rise

Prices had touched the sky and the government machinery had not done anything in bringing hoarders to book.

The BJP leader said the Congress-led UPA Government brought down the prices of petroleum products before the elections keeping an eye on its electoral prospects and soon after getting the mandate for the second term, made an upward revision.

Consequently, it led to skyrocketing prices of the essential commodities including pulses, vegetables and rice.

Referring to the State Budget presented by Finance Minister K. Rosaiah, Mr. Kishen Reddy regretted that there was no mention on spiralling prices.
