Commuters complain
Special Correspondent
CHENNAI: Commuters voiced several grievances about services and stations to Southern Railway General Manager M.S. Jayanth when he went on an inspection of the Chennai Beach-Tambaram suburban section on Saturday.
Electric Multiple Unit (EMU) services not adhering to the time schedules during rush hour, no proper announcement about arrival of the trains running late, inadequate passenger amenities at the stations and absence of boards on platforms indicating the position of ladies’ compartments were some of their complaints. The commuters also demanded toilets at all stations and complained about the narrow foot overbridges, absence of canteen facilities and ‘unauthorised’ occupation of pass-holders in first-class compartments.
Mr. Jayanth assured the commuters that he would look into their grievances. He inspected the passenger amenities at the suburban stations and gave instructions to the officials concerned to rectify those requiring improvements.
