Two cops held

Special Correspondent

AHMEDABAD: Two policemen, a head constable and a constable, have been arrested for their alleged links with the bootleggers and suppliers of spurious liquor that caused the recent hooch tragedy in Ahmedabad, killing 143 people.

The crime branch police, who arrested the head constable Ranjitsinh Dabhi and constable Baldev Desai, said the duo, both attached to the Kagdapith police station, were believed to be 50 per cent partners of the notorious bootlegger, Daddu Chhara, for allowing him to run a liquor joint at Kantodiyavas in Majoor Gaam, from where the first reports of the hooch deaths started trickling in.

The two were earlier suspended along with 13 others against whom disciplinary actions were taken for dereliction of duty.
