VIJAYAWADA: Experts from the rice bran oil industry, noted doctors and professionals on Sunday underscored the need for promoting the awareness and use of the rice bran oil for deriving maximum benefits related to health aspects and particularly for minimising the risk factors as far as a heart attack is concerned. The doctors and industry leaders from the four States of South India dwelt on the multi-fold benefits of the RBO at the 12th national seminar on “Rice Bran Oil” and the doctors’ meet organised by the Solvent Extractors’ Association of India SEAI at Hotel Gateway here. Addressing the seminar as chief guest, Care Hospitals chairman B. Soma Raju said that the rice bran oil came to be described as the world’s healthiest oil and the use of such oil would help in lowering incidence of health problems. He pointed out that the source of the rice bran oil was the husk or hull of rice. He commended the industry’s efforts to popularise its use with passion and enthusiasm. Dr. Soma Raju described prevention of a disease as cure and explained that maximum benefits could be reaped if a patient was treated right in the initial stages when he or she would be suffering from mild symptoms. Serious action should be taken when there is mild blood pressure or heart related ailments, he said and added that lifestyle changes and food habits will help in the prevention aspect. Dr. V. Chockalingam, a noted cardiologist from Tamil Nadu, explained that more than anything else, it was the mindset of a person that would play a bigger role in the so-called problem of heart attacks. “In fact, there is nothing called heart attack. It is a wrong terminology. Heart never attacks, but it is mind that attacks the heart,” he added. If a person meditates, then there is no need for medication, he added. O.P. Goenka, chairman of the RBO seminar, explained about the effectiveness of the RBO as the “health oil” in reducing blood cholesterol. He pointed out that the development of rice bran oil was traced to Tadepalligudem, Guntur and other areas in the coastal Andhra Pradesh. SEA president Ashok Sethia, RBO seminar convener M. Rajaiah and others spoke.
