Unique: Imported prayer rugs being sold at a shop in Madina. — HYDERABAD: They are designed for comfort with a touch of divinity so that all your prayers are answered. Now that the holy month of Ramzan is just a fortnight away, devotees can now offer prayers on imported prayer rugs, similar to the ones used in Makkah and Madina. Adorned with West Asian designs with rich colours such as velvety blue, red, green and beige, imported prayer rugs from various countries such as Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Belgium are being sold at the 80-year-old shop, Mohammed Cap Mart at Madina. “The intricate designs on each rug make it different from one another and most of the designs are inspired by traditional prayer rugs. The rugs are machine-made so that one can kneel down for long hours without putting much pressure on the knees and are washable too,” Ilyas Bukhari, Managing Director, Mohammed Cap Mart, told press persons here on Sunday. JanamazPrayer rugs or ‘Janamaz’, as they are traditionally called, are an important part of Islam as they are laid on bare ground in the direction of ‘Kaba’ by devotees before kneeling down to offer Namaz five times during a day. The demand for these rugs is such that devotees from distant places come to purchase them during the month of Ramzan. “We have customers from Nizamabad, Bidar and Aurangabad and also from the neighbouring States who come to buy these imported prayer rugs. And, people want them because the same praying carpets are laid at the holy shrines of Makkah Mukarramah and Madina Munawwarah,” claimed Mr. Bukhari Prices of these imported prayer rugs range from Rs. 250 to Rs. 800 and apart from the prayer rugs, a variety of decorative art pieces, caps and different attires for Ramzan are also on offer at Mohammed Cap Mart.
