Gram panchayat body’s plea to fill vacancies

Staff Reporter

VIJAYAWADA: The Andhra Pradesh Grama Panchayati Employees’ Association has urged the government to fill the vacancies of village secretaries with ‘karobars’, part-time bill collectors and other staff who have put in five years of service.

Addressing a press conference here on Sunday, association president Kota Venkateswarlu said that more than 3,000 employees were working in gram panchayats on nominal pay.

The government had given an assurance to fill the vacant village secretaries with karobars and part-time bill collectors who had completed five years of service by 2002.

However, there were no such moves in that direction so far. The government should respond positively to the association’s demands and fill the vacancies by Vijaya Dasami this year, he said, adding that the government should appoint karobar, part-time bill collectors, who were in service from 2002 to 2009, as assistant secretaries in cluster panchayats.

The association members said that NMRs, sweepers, pump operators, bill collectors, ‘karobars’, watchmen, electricians and others were all sweating out for grassroots level civic body.
