Gold jewellery, mobile phone, Rs.10,000 stolen Victim was headed for Chennai to attend court hearing CHENNAI: An unidentified man robbed a Mumbai-based woman CBI officer in a train bound to Chennai after offering her flavoured milk spiked with an unknown substance. The person is suspected to have slipped away with over 10 sovereigns of jewellery, a mobile phone and Rs.10,000 while the officer was unconscious. Sources in the Government Railway Police (GRP) at the Chennai Central said that the victim, Prema Logan (50), an Inspector with the CBI, Mumbai, was headed for Chennai to attend a court hearing for a case. She boarded the Chennai-Mumbai Express and was travelling in its 2-tier AC compartment. “On Saturday night when the train reached Kadappa in Andhra Pradesh, a well-dressed young man boarded the train and was seated next to the officer. Gradually, he had befriended her and convinced her to consume the drugged milk he was carrying. When she fell unconscious, the man disembarked with her jewellery, cell phone and cash from her handbag,” said a senior investigating officer. The train reached the Chennai Central Station around 5 a.m. on Sunday and Ms. Logan was found unconscious inside the compartment by railway cleaning staff. GRP at the Central was alerted, who took the victim to Government General Hospital for treatment. A case has been registered and an investigation is under way. Further information on the man would be gathered after the officer makes a full recovery, the officer added.
