Health hazard: Lack of drainage facilities has made the lives of residents on Sooramangalam Main Road in Ward 25 in Salem miserable.

SALEM: Lack of drainage facilities has irked the residents of Soormanagalam Main Road in Ward 25.

Heavy traffic

The road serving an important connectivity between Leigh Bazar and Three Roads has been neglected for long. It is witnessing heavy traffic of lorries carrying paddy to the rice mills and other grains to oil mills situated along the road.

But the residents and shop and mill owners complain that the road often gets damaged as there was no drainage facility.

The sewage water remains stagnated along the road. Many have no other option but to let the sewage on the road.

The situation gets worsened in rainy season. Rainwater with sewage inundate the road causing severe hardship to road users and residents as well.

The people in the area say that they have been urging the administration to provide drainage facilities along the road, which will not only ensure healthy environment but also a stable road.
