NEW DELHI: Human Resource Minister Kapil Sibal on Monday said the Ministry was “consulting everybody” before arriving at a decision on setting up of a central university in Jammu and Kashmir. “Whatever the final decision, we will take into account everybody’s concern because we want justice and equity on the issue,” Mr. Sibal told reporters here. Establishment of a central university has snowballed into a major controversy with Jammu demanding that the university be headquartered there as announced by the Prime Minister and not be shifted to the Valley as proposed by the Ministry. “We are embracing the path of justice”“Jammu and Kashmir is special to us and we will take special care of the concerns of the people,” Mr. Sibal said. He however, did not specify the time frame during which the issue would be resolved. “We are embracing the path of justice and equity, and it would be inappropriate for me to give out the details of the meeting between me and the Chief Minister,” he said. Omar Abdullah submits proposalChief Minister Omar Abdullah met Mr. Sibal here on Sunday to discuss the issue and is reported to have submitted a proposal on establishing two central universities, one each in Jammu and Srinagar. The proposal has been mooted by a special Cabinet committee, set up by the Chief Minister, to resolve the issue. All members of the panel are here to pursue the matter with the Human Resource Development Ministry.
