Abhijeet, Sandipan keep winning

NEW DELHI: World junior champion Abhijeet Gupta and fellow Grandmaster Sandipan Chanda scored their third successive victory to be among the leaders after three rounds of the Kavala International Open chess tournament in Kavala, Greece, on Sunday.

On a lower board, Mumbai-lad Prasanna Rao did well to hold Romanian GM Mircea Parligras to a draw and reach two points.

Gopal loses

Grandmaster G. N. Gopal lost to fellow overnight leader Poland’s Wojciech Moranda in the third round of the Young Masters chess

tournament at Enschede, in the Netherlands, on Sunday.

Gopal, with two points, shares the third spot with Dutchman Twan Burg in this 18-player tournament.

Adhiban, Shyam lead

International Masters B. Adhiban and Shyam Sundar were among the 14 leaders with three points after three rounds of the Hogeschool Zeeland chess tournament at Vlissingen, Holland, on Sunday.

Kavala International Open (third round): Nikolai Chadaev (Rus, 2.5) drew with K. Humpy (2.5); Slavoljub Marjanovic (Srb, 2) lost to Sandipan Chanda (3); Abhijeet Gupta (3) bt Sopiko Khukhashvili (Geo, 2); Robert Hess (USA, 3) bt Aswin Jayaram (2); Andrei Deviatkin (Rus, 2) drew with D. Harika (2).
