celebrating rising of river: Thousands offered pooja on the occasion of Aadi Perukku festival in Cauvery river in Hogenakkal. — KRISHNAGIRI/DHARMAPURI: Thousands thronged Hogenakkal for Aadi Perukku festival and offered pooja in Cauvery River, a tourism spot, on Monday. Dharmapuri district administration announced a holiday for the festival and made all arrangements for the smooth conduct of the pooja in Hogenakkal. Dharmapuri District Collector P. Amutha participated in the pooja. There were special buses to Hogenakkal from different parts of Dharmapuri, Krishnagiri and Salem districts. A three-day cultural programme has been organised by the district administration with the cooperation of the forest department. Arrangements have been made to keep the environment clean during the festival. StallsStalls have been put up by the tourism, forest and agricultural departments which are attracting tourists. Other attractions are Karakattam by the police, Thappattam by Sakthi Cultural troupe from Dindigul, Bharatanatyam by Vinayaka Natyalaya troupe. People came by private and government buses. Those who came by lorry and vans were stopped at the Pennagaram check posts and they were provided with public transport to reach Hogenakkal. Special poojas were held in Hosur Chandrasudeswarar Temple, Murugan Temple and Varadarajaperumal Temple in Shoolagiri.
