I would like to bring to the notice of the authorities that there is dire need of a speed-breaker on the main road in front of ONGC, Neravy, Karaikal. Although there is a mobile barricade, near the main gate of the ONGC Complex, vehicles are plying at a very high speed which makes it almost impossible for the employees/officials of ONGC to take a turn from the main road to the office complex. In the recent past many deaths due to accidents have taken place on this road in front of the complex. Being a regular commuter, I have noticed many a times the employees and other public having a narrow escape from speeding vehicles. I request the authorities concerned to look into the matter and offer a solution as early as possible. R. Kaladar, Karaikal. No excuse, please! The technology advancements have enabled the transfer of funds instantly and the banks are avoiding issue of drafts. This has become a handicap for the students and the job applicants. In Thanjavur, the head office of the State Bank of India often display boards about the non-issue of drafts on some days in a week. When enquired, dearth of hands is attributed as reason. The authorities should facilitate the services to customers without any excuse. G. Isaac, Thanjavur-5. Strained travelTwo months ago I had a chance to fly to Singapore in Air India from Tiruchi. During my departure the flight had to land in Chennai before leaving to Singapore and we were asked to alight from the flight and walk a long stretch to reach a checking point in the Anna International Terminal to undergo formal medical check ups. Why can’t the facility be made available in Tiruchi Airport? It is difficult for aged persons and lone travellers to carry their luggage and move around. R. D. Sathiya Rajesh, Thanjavur-7. “Repair the bridge”On the railway bridge on Tiruvarur - Nagapattinam Road there existed many pot holes causing the death of a motorist. When the issue was brought to the knowledge of Collector, he rectified it. But after six months the scenario has surfaced again leaving much chances for loss of human life. The Collector should intervene immediately and repair the bridge. V. Dharmadoss, Tiruvarur. Pension payment remains arrearsI am a pensioner (retired on 31.10.1995) who got the three months pension as advance pension arrears payment as per the Government Order. Like any other government servant and Tamil Nadu Government pensioners, I expected the balance of arrear payment along with other pensioners. I heard from the Tiruvarur District Pensioners’ Association that a clarification has been sought from the government for paying arrears to college teachers. I do not know what clarification the Treasury wants, regarding the arrear payment for college retired teachers. Will the government sort this out without much delay? It is for college Teachers, who retired after 01-01-2006, reification is necessary and not for others. D. Packiriswamy, Tiruvarur. English replyAccording to my understanding, English continues to be the associate language along with the official language Hindi. Recently I experienced an embarrassment. My letter to the Department of Publications, Delhi was replied in Hindi. The printed bilingual bill had some remarks in Hindi recorded in manuscript. The authorities are bound to take care that letters in English are replied only in English. G. Vedarajan, Thanjavur. Damaged roadAt Valangaiman in Tiruvarur District from famous Mariamman Koil to General Hospital the road is badly damaged and is full of potholes. Since the condition of the road poses safety hazards to vehicles and pedestrians, the residents of that locality request the authorities to take speedy action for this before monsoon. M. Parthasarathi, Thippirajapuram. Alternatives soughtAnaikkarai bridge is the oldest bridge situated 25 km from Kumbakonam. This old bridge recently got damaged and the operation of heavy vehicles were prohibited, but the light vehicles were allowed to pass. More than 5,000 people from Jayankondam, Vriddhachalam, Meensurity, Sethiyathoppu and surroundings areas cross this bridge to reach their work places in Kumbakonam town. They have to cross this 1 km long bridge by walk, and the catch the bus at the other end of the bridge. They have to undergo the same ordeal while returning home. In night hours the safety of people crossing the bridge is at stake. And the elderly people and patients find it very difficult to cross such a long distance. I request the authorities to make alternative arrangements like operating share autorickshaws or mini buses. Gursthalam G. Srinivasan, Alangudi.
