action-packed: Students learning at a session in VHN Higher Secondary School in the city. MADURAI: Actions speak louder than words and what about a learning session based on action with bodily gestures on the lines of dumb charades where one tries to convey the meanings in action. It obviously should be taking the meaning close to the learner who is part of that. The language skill session of Newspaper in Education called ‘Time Machine’ under the language skills module for VI Standard students of VHN Higher Secondary School, began with ‘action words or verbs’ related to parts of the body. Divided into two groups, the students were quick to list out various actions, related to the body such as jumping, eating, and singing. A student came in front of the class and started punching in the air and the rest of them in the classroom shouted boxing, hitting, beating. The session kept the students on their toes. They performed various actions related to the body and made the rest of the students answer questions on the verbs related to the action. Verbs, which form the hub of the sentence, determine the sentence’s argument structure. A verb is a type of word that describes an action or a state of being or an occurrence like walk, run, jump, eat, do, have or think, they were told. The session turned out to be a good example of enchanted learning with students talking about words which are part of our everyday life such as eat, take, jump, speak, punch, run, kick etc. Earlier, the students were asked by the resource person Dharani Kesavan to find out at least 10 words saw class VI students participate with great enthusiasm to learn English. The resource person inspired the students in what was a session combined with good learning and fun.
