Urge Prime Minister to direct Maharashtra not to go ahead with the project

Prime Minister promises to talk to both the Chief Ministers to find a solution

Pranab says A.P. would be given priority in allocation of KG basin gas

NEW DELHI: A delegation of Congress MPs from Andhra Pradesh met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh here on Monday and urged him to direct the Maharashtra government not to go ahead with the Babli project.

They expressed fears that Telengana region would become a desert if Maharashtra installed gates across Godavari river at Babli as the water would not reach the tail end areas.

Dr. Singh promised to take up the issue with the Chief Ministers of both the States to find a solution, according to Rajya Sabha MP V. Hanumantha Rao, who was part of the delegation.

The MPs also highlighted the need for allocating coal blocks to the Singareni Collieries Company Limited which was badly hit due to adverse geo-mining conditions and higher stripping ratio.

MPs meet Pranab

Hyderabad Staff Reporter writes: Congress MPs from Andhra Pradesh met Union Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee in the Parliament complex in Delhi on Monday seeking allocation of gas produced from KG basin to the State.

Mr. Mukherjee assured that the State would be given priority in allocation of KG basin gas since the State was not asking for any subsidy, the A.P. Congress MPs Forum Convenor, Ponnam Prabhakar, told The Hindu over phone.

According to Mr. Prabhakar, Mr. Mukherjee said that as the State was seeking gas at market price, the demand for supply of gas to all gas-based projects in the State, Nedunuru power project, gas requirements for the revival of Ramagundam Fertiliser Factory would be considered favourably.
