Belligerent batting by Arun Karthick

Bangalore: K.B. Arun Karthick obviously feels at home at the Chinnaswamy Stadium.

After notching up a Ranji century on debut against Karnataka in November 2008, Arun was at it again here on Monday as his belligerent 196 (209b, 20x4, 2x6) helped defending champion TNCA post 550 for seven in the stipulated 100-over innings against Railway Sports Promotion Board (RSPB) in the KSCA All India invitation tournament match.

RSPB, which opted to bowl, resigned itself to a leather-hunt as Arun’s innings and a string of hefty contributions as well as cameos by the others, helped TNCA gallop away on the opening day.

Good partnerships

After openers Abhinav Mukund and Anirudha Srikkanth (81, 94b, 14x4) laid the base with a brisk 64-run partnership, Arun walked in and played with poise and was also involved in two fluid alliances — a 130-run third-wicket partnership with skipper Dinesh Karthik (45) and a 136-run fourth-wicket partnership with S. Suresh Kumar (66) — as the runs cascaded.

Arun notched his hundred in 121 deliveries and then increased the pace and was all set for a well-deserved double ton when he faltered and was castled by Sanjib Sanyal.

However the run-flow continued unabated as R. Prasanna (61 n.o.) flexed his bat while RSPB stumbled with poor fielding.

The scores:

TNCA 550 for seven in 100 overs (K.B. Arun Karthick 196, Anirudha Srikkanth 81, S. Suresh Kumar 66, R. Prasanna 61 n.o., Dinesh Karthik 45, Abhinav Mukund 29) vs RSPB.

Air India SC 523 for nine in 100 overs (M. Bisla 97, Robin Uthappa 92, Safiq Khan 75, Prashanth Naik 72, H. Kanitkar 60, Ankit Chavan 41 n.o., Niraj Patel three for 47, Amith Singh three for 81) vs Gujarat CA.

Kerala CA 369 for nine in 100 overs (Raiphy Vincent Gomez 118, Sambasiva Sharma 68, P. Prashanth 58, Praveen Achuthan 46, Rakesh 32, Sarandeep Singh three for 90) vs ONGC.

Dr. D.Y. Patil Cricket Academy 253 in 89.3 overs (Abhishek Raut 84, Damle 32, Yogesh Takawale 28, Shoaib Shaikh 25, Amol Shinde four for 69, Pragyan Ojha three for 80) vs Hyderabad CA 30 for two in 12.2 overs.
