Varun, Aashish and Vijay score centuries

CHENNAI: Vivekananda College’s Varun Anand, SRM group’s R. Aashish Kumar and Guru Nanak College’s Vijay Shankar made match-winning centuries in the Vodafone Trophy cricket tournament here on Monday. Vidya Mandir’s Anirudh Raghavan claimed six wickets but couldn’t prevent Loyola College from registering a 206-run win.

The scores (round one): Vivekananda College 221 in 48.3 overs (Varun Anand 109, Dinesh 33, Kiran Kashyap four for 50) bt PSBB (K.K. Nagar) 152 in 39.2 overs (Rishab Rajasekar 42, R. Sricharan 55, Vignesh M. Mohan four for 29). Points: Vivekananda 5; PSBB minus 1.

Loyola College 272 in 49.4 overs (G. Anantha Prasad 91, Nijin 84, Anirudh Raghavan six for 52) bt Vidya Mandir 66 in 22.3 overs (Yogesh Mahadevan three for 24). Points: Loyola 5; Vidya Mandir minus 1.

SRM group 296 for eight in 47 overs (R. Aashish Kumar 101 n.o., R.D. Ashwin Kumar 77, Navin Surya 38) bt Don Bosco 141 for nine in 47 overs (Jim Isreal 37, Abdul Latheef 30, R. Vivek three for 14). Points: SRM 5; Don Bosco minus 1.

Guru Nanak 223 for seven in 50 overs (K. Tharun 47, Vijay Shankar 117 n.o, R. Ashwin three for 34) bt St. Bede’s 107 for nine in 50 overs (Akhil Srinath 27, R. Rohith three for 21). Points: Gurunanak 5; St. Bede’s minus 1.

Harish hits hundred

S. Harish Babu’s 129 off 91 balls propelled Velammal to a 117-run victory over Hussain Memorial in the TDCA-Boost Cup under-16 inter-school cricket tournament held here.

The results: TI MHSS 186 in 30 overs (M. Anand 51, P. Roshan 36) bt Shamrock MHSS 145 in 26.1 overs (M. Thyagarajan three for 27, L. Varun three for 32); St. Mary’s MHSS 115 for eight in 25 overs (A. Jerome 32, Y. Srinath 31, K. Dinesh three for 21) lost to Ebenezer Marcus MHSS 116 for six in 14.2 overs; Velammal MHSS 248 for three in 30 overs (Harish Babu 129, D. Sriram shines

A.R. Sriram scored a quick-fire 59 from 42 balls to help Unique CA win over Sri Sankara CA by four wickets in an under-13 match of the CSCA Ganpa Memorial Trophy.

The results (U-13): Sri Sankara CA 172 for five in 25 overs (S. Manish 75, S. Sriram 64) lost to Unique CA 173 for six in 23.5 overs (A.R. Sriram 59, M.P. Ashwin four for 44); Kedar CA 154 in 23.5 overs (V. Yogesh 43, P. Ajith Kumar 30, A. Suraj three for 26) bt N. Kanniah CA 148 for seven in 25 overs (Leo Sachin 47, Jaganna 35, P. Ajith Kumar three for 34); Budding Stars CA 151 in 24.4 overs (Manoj 36, Aditya Raghuram 30) bt Unique CA 115 for six in 25 overs (Vineet 31).

U-11: Sri Sankara CA 148 for three in 25 overs (Abhijith 50, Yogesh 42) lost to N. Kanniah CA 149 for five in 23 overs (Siva Prakash 40, Dinesh 37, Ramkumar 26).

Resolution removes TNCA clause

A Special General Body meeting of the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association, on Monday, passed a unanimous resolution removing the clause that limits an office-bearer’s tenure in the TNCA to eight successive years.

K.S. Viswanathan, secretary, TNCA, said the meeting was requisitioned by as many as 123 members clubs of the TNCA. “If there is a request from more than one fifth of the members, the TNCA has to hold a Special General Body meeting,” he said. He revealed 162 out of 191 members attended the meeting.

Pramila takes honours

The driver-navigator combination of Pramila Jacob and Lita Srinivasan emerged triumphant in the experts category with a tally of 20 bonus points in the JK Tyre-Duchess Women’s car rally held here on Sunday.

Raji Divakar and Minnie Amirapu finished second with 15 penalty points. Rekha Reddy and Preeti Damani came third with 23 penalty points.

Other results:

Regular: 1. Kavitha Srinath-Padmaja Rao (12+ bonus points); 2. Vanitha Mahesh-Ashley Thomas (12); 3. Kiran Uttam-Jayanthi Murugesh (9).

Novice: 1. K. Prema-S. Aishwarya (5); 2. Aruna R. Krishnan-Samyuktha Baliga (1 penalty pt); 3. Nirmala-Vasanthi (10 PP).

Football tournament

The DAV group of schools will conduct the third Smt Prabha Jaidev memorial football tournament for boys from August 7 to 12 at the DAV school premises in Mogappair.
