NEW DELHI: Even as power cuts lasting up to a couple of hours were reported from several areas of the Capital on Monday, the Delhi Government asked the Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission (DERC) to ascertain whether the power distribution companies are carrying out needless load-shedding. While residents of several South Delhi areas complained of power cuts lasting up to four hours at a stretch, discom officials blamed low frequency and faults in two 220 kV lines for the outages. “The frequency dipped to as low as 48.75 Hz and 49.02 Hz, even when Delhi was under-drawing from the Northern Grid. Load-shedding had to be carried out in several areas to save the Grid from collapse,” said discom sources. Snag developedThey said supply in some areas was also affected when two 220 kV transmission lines between Okhla and Badarpur thermal stations belonging to Delhi Transco developed a snag. “Work related to the repair of these lines was being carried out till later in the day. While one line was restored, another was still out.” Residents of Greater Kailash and Siddharth Extension complained of power cuts for as long as three hours. Complaints of power cuts were also reported from Nehru Place, Chittaranjan Park, East of Kailash and Kailash Colony.
